HOUSEBOAT CAPITAL OF CANADA
Economic Development is provided by the Columbia Shuswap Regional District, with emphasis on Tourism and the Houseboat Industry. In 2004, the Columbia Shuswap Regional District produced a CD version of a DVD version of a video called "The Shuswap...The Place To Be". This information is available at the District of Sicamous office, free of charge. A significant portion of the video provides detailed information on Sicamous and the local businesses.
The District of Sicamous contracts with the Sicamous and District Chamber of Commerce to provide tourist information services. The Chamber sponsors advertising and brochures of Sicamous as a four-season destination.
The District of Sicamous has a new attraction to encourage visitors to pull off the Trans Canada Highway at Silver Sands Road. Twin Anchors Houseboat Vacations donated a houseboat shell. The Economic Opportunity Fund, administered by the Columbia Shuswap Regional District, provided funding which allowed the District to build a foundation and other improvements to put the shell in place. Artists from the Sicamous Palette Club spent much time and care in painting a replica of Shuswap Lake on the floor of the kiosk. Completion of the kiosk is anticipated by June of 2006. This feature will provide visitors to our community a highway rest area and business information with a view to attracting those visitors to stop in Sicamous and visit our downtown business core.
