Originals of faxed or emailed nomination documents must be received by the Chief Election Officer by 4:30 pm on September 21, 2018.

Nomination packages can be found:

  • online at sicamous.ca 
  • at the District Office during regular office hours, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday

Who Can Run for Office

To stand as a candidate for office, a person must be:

  1. 18 years of age or older as of general voting day for the election (October 20, 2018)
  2. a Canadian citizen
  3. a resident of British Columbia, as determined in accordance with section 67 of the Local Government Act, for the past six months immediately preceding the date of nomination
  4. not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election in BC or from being nominated for, being elected to or holding the office, or otherwise disqualified by law.

Campaign Period Expense Limits

In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2018 general local election, the following expense limits for candidates during the campaign period apply:

Mayor $10,000 
Councillor $5,000

Third Party Advertising Limits

In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2018 general local election, the third-party advertising limit is $750.                    

What’s New for Candidates and Elector Organizations in the 2018 Election

New provincial campaign finance restrictions will be in effect for the 2018 municipal election, limiting donation amounts to campaigns and establishing criteria for donors. For a full list of the changes, read the Elections BC bulletin. Campaign finance rules are administered by Elections BC, not the District of Sicamous.
