Urban Wildlife Reminder

It is that time of year again...when we nestle ourselves in nature surrounded by water and mountains. We're not the only ones enjoying nature at this time of year... the critters and creatures are also out and about!

We want everyone to remain Bear Aware and be mindful of your actions that could attract unwanted wildlife to your yard or campsite.

As a reminder, the District of Sicamous does not respond to complaints about urban wildlife. However, the Bylaw Officer will enforce District bylaws that refer to the attraction of vermin.

Vermin refers to any animal that may damage buildings or structures, spread filth, or spread disease including but not limited to Mouse, Rat, Chipmunk, Squirrel, Raccoon, Rabbit, and Skunk (Good Neighbour Bylaw No. 1005, 2021).

The District is happy to provide pointers on how to discourage wildlife from frequenting your yard and home.

Already have critters in your yard or home?

Please consider trap and release but be mindful of the breeding season and to not disturb nests before babies are able to be on their own. For more information on humane rodent control, please visit the BC SPCA Humane Rodent Control.

Wildlife conflict resolution

To report a conflict with wildlife that threatens public safety, contact the BC Conservation Officer Service at 1-877-952-7277.
