Invasive Species

Partnerships

The District partners with the Columbia Shuswap Invasive Species Society (CSISS) to identify and address invasive species within the municipality. The District is represented on the CSISS Board of Directors by Jeromy Schuetze, District Engineer.

The District also partners with the Shuswap Watershed Council (SWC) to focus on strategic initiatives to protect, maintain, and enhance water quality and promote safe recreation in the Shuswap. The District is represented as a member of the SWC by Councillor Beech.

Advocacy

Each year, Council submits resolutions to the Southern Interior Local Government Association (SILGA) for consideration at its Annual Convention. In 2023, Council brought three resolutions for debate, one of which was for Greater Enforcement for the Provincial Invasive Mussel Defense Program. The resolution was endorsed and will be submitted to the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) which is then presented to its membership at the Annual Convention. You can learn more about the resolution here: 2023 SILGA Resolutions Book
