Communities in Bloom Week

On March 27, 2024 council proclaimed May 6 to 10 "Communities in Bloom Week!"

We would like to take this time to highlight and recognize the amazing efforts of Sicamous Communities in Bloom.

May 3 - Next Week: Communities in Bloom Week 

  • Did you know that Sicamous Communities in Bloom and the District of Sicamous host an annual community cleanup in celebration of Earth Day? This year, more than 30 community members participated in the community cleanup and the rejuvenation of the flowerbeds at seniors' residences operated by the Sicamous & District Senior Citizens Housing Society. Learn more!
  • The Sicamous Garden Society, Grow & Change Horticultural Services and Let it Bee Farm will host the Sicamous Spring Festival on May 4, 2024 at The Hub (442 Finlayson Street) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.! The event will offer a diverse range of vendors covering wellness, plants, artisan goods and flowers. There will also be food trucks on site. Check out the Facebook eventlearn more and register!
    • Yoga for Gardening with Coleen Dales from Hyde Mountain Yoga (10 a.m.)
    • Pollination Planting Made Easy with Lisa & Jazmyn from Sicamous Garden Society (11 a.m.)
    • Plantain & Pine with Erin Green from Greeniebird Healing Garden (12 p.m.)
    • Mushroom Logs with Andy Hutchinson (1 p.m.)

May 6 - Curbside Waste Pickup

  • Did you know that the District of Sicamous offers a free two-day waste pickup event each year? Curbside waste pickup provides residents with an opportunity to clean up their yards and dispose of unwanted items.
  • On May 6, the district will pick up white goods such as hot water tanks, stoves, washers, dryers, fridges and freezers. On May 7, the district will pick up organic yard waste.
  • The environment is a crucial aspect of the Communities in Bloom evaluation, reflecting the collective commitment towards sustainability and beautification. In this regard, the District of Sicamous is a proud partner, consistently championing environmental initiatives that enhance the quality of life for residents through events such as curbside waste pickup.

May 7 - Transforming the Sicamous Legion

  • Did you know that Sicamous Communities in Bloom, the Royal Canadian Legion #99 and the Eagle Valley Arts Council have partnered to revitalize the Sicamous Legion? The District of Sicamous and businesses in the community have supported the transformation of the Legion site and building, which has proven critical in the revitalization of downtown.
  • The District of Sicamous curbside waste pickup event continues on May 7 with the collection of organic yard waste.

May 8 - Art Board Installation

  • Did you know that Sicamous Communities in Bloom and the Eagle Valley Arts Council have have partnered to beautify Sicamous with an incredible installation of art boards?
  • Sicamous Communities in Bloom and the Eagle Valley Arts Council have big plans to create an Art Trail Map that outlines all of the amazing art around town. Stay tuned!

May 9 - Heritage in Sicamous

  • Did you know that the Red Barn's 100th anniversary is coming up in 2026? Sicamous Communities in Bloom and the Eagle Valley Arts Council have partnered to enhance and beautify the Red Barn, which can be observed through the careful landscaping and art fence.
  • The Red Barn Arts Centre is recognized for its role in the social, cultural, educational and economic activities in the Sicamous community.
  • Sicamous Communities in Bloom have also partnered with the Sicamous & District Museum & Historical Society and the Sicamous & District Chamber of Commerce to create a Heritage Trail Map. The map includes six signs located throughout the town that allow readers to enjoy a leisurely stroll while learning more about the rich heritage of Sicamous!
  • Heritage preservation is an important part of Communities in Bloom assessments. Sicamous Communities in Bloom is dedicated to honoring the unique character and history that defines our community!

May 10 - Closing Remarks!

  • Did you know that Sicamous is a 5-bloom community? The Communities in Bloom judges will return to Sicamous on July 8, 2024. It will take a community effort to make sure that Sicamous is looking its best for the judges!
  • The Morel Market will take place in Sicamous on May 24, 2024.
  • Sicamous Communities in Bloom is helping to expand the Friday Night Farmers' Market and put the wonderful Sicamous Legion space to good use.
  • Hanging flower baskets will be distributed to participating downtown businesses as part of Sicamous Community in Bloom's efforts to revitalize the downtown core.

  • Did you know that there is a Sicamous Gardeners Facebook page? Check it out to join Sicamous gardeners in sharing new ideas, past experience and helping each other find solutions while celebrating garden successes!
