The Sicamous Fire Department recently completed the Ice Rescue Technician Course.

The two-day course was held in Sicamous by Raven Rescue and trained the crew to perform "go" rescues involving ice rescue on unstable freeze.

The ice for this year's course was very weak and challenged the crew's ability and determination. Breaking through 20 feet of very weak ice on shore, the crew was able to climb onto the stronger ice further out.

Several rescue techniques were successfully practiced and assessed, with all members earning their technician certification. Most members of the Sicamous Fire Department now have their Ice Rescue Technician training!
