BC Hydro has organized a planned power outage within the District of Sicamous from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 23, 2024.

The power outage will allow for the install of temporary fibre optics and telecommunications during the R.W. Bruhn Bridge replacement project. The outage will mark the completion of the Bridge Pole Relocation project, which was a joint venture between BC Hydro and the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

BC Hydro has warned that exact times may vary depending on the progress of the work. The outage is expected to impact most of the District of Sicamous. Impacted customers should have already received communication via phone or email, depending on which contact information is available through their BC Hydro account. A second notification will be issued two weeks prior to the outage.

"While we do our best to minimize impacts resulting from the planned outage, we require daylight to complete this work and therefore cannot schedule overnight," says Dave Cooper, public affairs coordinator of the south interior for BC Hydro. "Discussions with key stakeholders took place to determine the most suitable date and time."

Residents can expect traffic disruptions on Old Spallumcheen Road, Old Sicamous Road, Bruhn Road and Highway 1 between Gill Road and just east of Old Sicamous Road. Boaters are asked to avoid the Sicamous Narrows while BC Hydro crews remove old spans of line.

BC Hydro assures Sicamous residents that they are maximizing their time with this outage. They intend to complete works on two other projects in addition to the Bruhn Bridge Pole Relocation project during the outage. If you have any questions, please contact BC Hydro.
