Sicamous welcomes new fire chief Lorenzo De Arcangelis

April 4, 2024—The District of Sicamous is excited to introduce Lorenzo De Arcangelis who joins the Sicamous Fire Department as its new fire chief on April 15, 2024.

“Chief De Arcangelis brings an extensive background in firefighting and emergency response to our community,” says Mayor Colleen Anderson. “We look forward to working with him and wish him all the very best of success. Welcome to Sicamous, chief!”

De Arcangelis says it was Sicamous's unique charm and spirit that inspired him to apply for the position.

“Our family is excited to become active members of the Sicamous community," he shares, "I am profoundly thankful for the warm welcome and I am eager to contribute to Sicamous’ safety and resilience."

De Arcangelis brings over 25 years of diverse experience in fire services, including fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials management, wildland interface firefighting and fire prevention. Before joining the district, De Arcangelis held leadership roles with Richmond Fire Rescue and Vancouver Fire Rescue Services. He has also completed military service in Afghanistan.

"A deep commitment to safety, excellence and active community engagement has always driven my career," shares De Arcangelis. He adds that strategic planning, safety protocols, operational efficiency and community outreach will all be prioritized to meet the current and future demands of the fire department.

"We will focus on continuous improvement, excellence and fostering solid and meaningful connections with those we serve," he says. "As I step into this role, my leadership philosophy is centred on transparency, collaboration and mutual respect. I am committed to elevating our fire services to ensure the safety and well-being of every community member, tackling unique local challenges with innovative solutions."

Outside of his role, De Arcangelis is a devoted husband of 15 years and a proud father of two daughters. He enjoys spending time in the outdoors hiking to create space for moments of reflection and rejuvenation.

Reflecting on the position he will fill, De Arcangelis thanks former fire chief Brett Ogino for his 28 years of service.

“Thank you for your years of tireless service and leadership and for setting a stellar example within the Sicamous Fire Department, fire chief Ogino!”
