District of Sicamous Meetings: An Overview

Council and committee meetings are held in council chambers at Municipal Hall. Public participation is welcomed and encouraged. Meetings are open unless for reasons outlined under section 90 of the Community Charter.

The District of Sicamous Council typically meets the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month for committee of the whole and regular council meetings.

  • Committee of the Whole Meetings are generally held at 1 p.m. At committee of the whole, council receives department updates from staff, discusses emerging topics and hears delegations from local community groups. Motions made at committee of the whole meetings recommend that council adopts resolutions at future council meetings or direct staff to take a particular course of action.
  • Regular Council Meetings are generally held at 5 p.m. At regular council meetings, council makes decisions by voting on motions and making resolutions.

The District of Sicamous also has several standing committees appointed by the mayor. These include the select finance committee, the housing committee and the planning and development committee.

  • Planning & Development Committee Meetings are generally held the third Wednesday of each month. At planning and development committee meetings, the committee reviews development proposals, provides input and makes recommendations to council. The committee is comprised of both members of council and the community.
  • Housing Committee Meetings are held twice per year to consider the housing needs of the community and provide recommendations to council. The committee is comprised of both members of council and the community.
  • Select Finance Committee Meetings are scheduled each October to be held monthly from November to February of the following year. The committee is comprised of all members of council, and is a forum to discuss and make decisions about the District of Sicamous' budget.
