District of Sicamous Council Acknowledges "Forestry is a Solution" Initiative

At the March 11, 2026 regular council meeting, the District of Sicamous Council passed a resolution in support of the Forestry is a Solution initiative from the BC Council of Forest Industries.

Led by a broad coalition of community leaders, workers and industry advocates, Forestry is a Solution demonstrates community support for forestry while working to ensure that the forest sector remains a strategic asset for the future of British Columbia.

Communities across the province are working together to show the provincial government that forestry provides solutions for BC's most urgent concerns, including building affordable housing, reducing wildfire risks, supporting family-sustaining jobs and contributing revenue that helps fund public services.

The initiative is focused on four key priorities for immediate government action to strengthen the forestry sector:

  • Speed up access to economic wood by expediting permits and approvals for greater predictability.
  • Improve competitiveness and cost certainty by reducing administrative and regulatory burdens.
  • Fix BC Timber Sales to ensure a reliable and competitive supply of logs for mills and secondary manufacturing.
  • Support First Nations partnerships with the capacity and tools to expedite referrals and increase revenue sharing.
