September 8, 2023 Update:

Following the successful water main replacement on Kappel Street West, minor follow-up work is required on Riverside Avenue. This will result in a short water outage impacting Riverside properties. The photo gallery below includes a map highlighting the impacted properties in orange.

The water disruption is anticipated to occur between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. today.

When the water is restored, please run your taps until it clears. Thank you for your understanding and patience while this essential work is completed. If you have questions or concerns, please call the District office at 250-836-2477.

September 7, 2023 Update:

The water shut-off area has been expanded due to an issue with the valve at Kappel Street and Highway 97A. A new map outlining the impacted properties has been added to the image gallery below.

The District apologizes for the unexpected interruption to these properties. If you require water, please contact the District at 250-836-2477 and it will be delivered to you.

ORIGINAL POST:

Remember when we talked about planning the switch from the old watermain to the new one on Kappel Street? If you don't, you can catch up here because it is happening next week!

Tie in day, Thursday September 7 from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

This is a huge step in the Kappel Watermain replacement project, switching over from the old watermain to the newly installed watermain. There are three connection points, Riverside, Shuswap and Highway 97A. Also, there are all the individual services along Kappel that will be disconnected from the old watermain and reconnected to the new watermain. The contractor, Skwlax Resource Management, and the Sicamous Utility crew will have all hands on deck for the duration of the day until water service is restored.

The shut off valves on Riverside and Shuswap are very old. While our utility team has been ‘exercising’ the valves, it is possible that they won’t hold. In this event, we will have to expand the shut off area to the next valves. This expanded area is shown in Orange in the map below. If the valves do hold, then the service area impacted for the switch over day will be the area identified in blue. In addition to the area identified in blue, along Riverside, north from Kappel to 714 and 809 Riverside inclusive, will have reduced water pressure for the duration of the day.

In preparation for this big day, please fill up your water jugs, make sure your plants are watered and your pets have full bowls of water.

***If you need support preparing for the water outage, please contact the District at 250-836-2477. We have bottled water available upon request and will try to meet any of your other needs.

The new watermain will be worth it, we promise!
