May 17 is International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia. Started by Quebec organization Fondation Émergence in 2003, this awareness day is recognized across Canada and internationally to take a stand against homophobia and transphobia.

At the March 22, 2023 Regular Council Meeting, District of Sicamous Council declared May 17 as International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia in Sicamous. In recognition of this important day of inclusivity, diversity and acceptance, a rainbow flag will be raised outside the district office.
