Jamie Sherlock brings a passion for community and a deep understanding of Sicamous to her role as recreation programmer. She recently celebrated her 10-year anniversary with the District of Sicamous – an entire decade of dreaming up exciting and engaging recreation programming and events for the community and visitors alike to enjoy.

“I love Sicamous, and I want to see it thrive,” she shares. “I love meeting new people and researching new programs to keep things fresh.”

Jamie joined the District of Sicamous team in 2015 after spending 12.5 years with the Sicamous & District Chamber of Commerce. While she loved overseeing the visitor centre, she was ready for a change and a challenge. Jamie took the leap, landing the job that she would settle into over the next decade.

Growing up in Sicamous, Jamie was involved in everything from swim club, softball, gymnastics and figure skating to hockey and school track meets. Later in life, Jamie remained involved in community sports through her children. She took on roles as coach, team manager and board member for both minor hockey and softball, eventually serving as minor hockey president. These experiences connected her to a wide network that continues to support her work in recreation today.

“I love being able to work with the ever-changing community, trying new programs and events,” Jamie shares. “Most of all, I love getting to know the kids in the community. I have seen kids come up through our programs and they are now walking the graduation stage! I hope that their time in the Kids Club program, or the skills they learned in one of our rec programs is something they will look back on with a smile.”

When she’s not planning recreation programs or working on the next season’s Rec & Events Guide, Jamie helps run a logging company with her husband. She’s also a passionate hockey fan and a dedicated volunteer with the Sicamous Eagles. “It must be a water thing,” she laughs. “I love both the lake and the ice.”

“I’ve seen a lot of changes over the years and what I love right now is all the families we have moving to the community,” Jamie shares. “It makes me smile to sit on my deck and hear my neighbours’ kids playing street hockey or riding bikes, and cheers and laughter coming from the ball field.”

The District of Sicamous team truly values the passion and experience Jamie brings to our recreation programming. If you have an idea for a program or event, don’t hesitate to reach out! Jamie’s known for bringing great ideas to life and making things happen for our community.
