Clayton Allen is a long-standing member of Sicamous Fire Rescue, having served the community for over 27 years. Since joining the department in 1998, he has played a key role in delivering emergency services and mentoring generations of firefighters in Sicamous.
As deputy fire chief, Allen oversees officer responsibilities, conducts fire inspections and supports departmental operations. When the fire chief is away, Deputy Chief Allen steps up to lead the team.
“You must be a strong leader and a good communicator,” he says, reflecting on the qualities that are important in fire service. “You must be able to remain calm under pressure and have a strong understanding of firefighting.”
Over the years, Deputy Chief Allen shared the Sicamous Fire Rescue experience with all three of his children, each of whom served with the department for a time. Those years, he says, are his proudest and most memorable.
A strong supporter of the community, Allen has owned several local businesses and continues to stay involved in through his role in the department. “Sicamous is a great town,” he says, “I have always been well supported – it feels good to give back to this community.”
When he’s not at the fire hall or on the job with Superior Propane, you’ll likely find Allen at the arena or ball field cheering on his grandkids.
