Last weekend, the District of Sicamous was pleased to welcome the following provincial representatives to Sicamous:
- The Honourable Josie Osborne, Minister of Health
- The Honourable Brittny Anderson, Minister of State for Local Governments Rural Communities
- The Honourable Steve Morissette, Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Development
During the visit, Mayor Colleen Anderson and Councillor Pam Beech led a tour of the Sicamous Health Centre and took part in meaningful discussions about the community’s priorities, opportunities and continued growth. Conversations included the potential development of Interior Health services within the health centre, which would further support access to health care services for Sicamous and the surrounding area.
Meetings with provincial representatives are an important part of advancing local priorities and ensuring the needs of our community are heard. The District of Sicamous is grateful for the opportunity to share the community’s vision, highlight local opportunities and continue advocating for positive, sustainable growth.
The opportunity to host the provincial representatives followed the Southern Interior Local Government Association annual convention, where council advocated for four resolutions related to regional local government challenges. The resolutions focused on:
- Transparency of Governance;
- Foreshore Lease Applications;
- Public Access to Land; and
- Off-Road Vehicle Management Framework.
Through continued advocacy and relationship-building with senior levels of government, council remains committed to moving Sicamous’ priorities forward and supporting a strong future for the community.
