Operation Lifesaver and rail partners across Canada are sharing reminders this week to help prevent tragedies around tracks and trains.
Every year, more than 2,100 North Americans are killed or seriously injured in railway crossing and trespassing incidents. Almost all of these incidents are preventable – and prevention starts with knowing how to act safely around tracks and trains. Operation Lifesaver is a national not-for-profit dedicated to rail safety that has developed some easy-to-follow tips that will help protect you and your family and friends.
As a community intersected by the railway, the District of Sicamous joins Operation Lifesaver in encouraging residents and visitors to practice safe behaviours around the tracks.
Important Rail Safety Reminders:
- Never walk or take photos along the train tracks.
- Cross tracks only at designated locations.
- Always look for signals.
- Wait for trains to pass completely.
- Never try to beat the train.
- In the event of a rail emergency, contact CPKC Police at 1-800-716-9132.
