The District of Sicamous is excited to welcome Carra Donaldson to the team! Matched with our community through the Local Government Management Association Internship Program, Carra will be based at Municipal Hall for the next year as she explores the many facets of local government.

Carra graduated from Simon Fraser University with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a minor in sustainable development. She brings with her a passion for innovative city planning that reflects environmental, accessibility and social needs.

“I love learning about how we are shaped and influenced by our social environments, so I’m excited to learn more about the culture in Sicamous,” says Carra. “I’ve never lived in a small town before, so there are lots of new dynamics to observe.”

Carra is eager to learn how different departments work together and contribute to the exciting projects planned for the year ahead. We appreciate the fresh perspective and energy she brings to our team.

When asked what her current personal motto is, Carra shared “por qué no?” – Spanish for “why not?” – explaining that it reflects her inclination to say yes to new plans and ideas. In line with that spirit, she says her dream skill would be fluency in Spanish, which is a goal that she is actively working toward.

Outside of the office, Carra loves to hike. She spent last summer in Banff and hit the trails every weekend. “I’m keen to discover the area, so if anyone has any recommendations, let me know,” she says. Carra also likes to read, so her first stop in town was the Sicamous branch of the Okanagan Regional Library to get a membership.

“I just moved to Sicamous at the beginning of June and am really excited to meet everyone and get involved,” Carra shares. “Please say hi if you see me out and about!”

Welcome to Sicamous, Carra! We so glad to have your knowledge, curiosity and enthusiasm on board.
