Sicamous Fire Rescue has announced that two members are rising into new positions within the department.

“I am proud to announce the elevation of Jarrod Laroy to deputy fire chief and Steve Norton to captain at Sicamous Fire Rescue,” says Fire Chief Clayton Allen.

Jarrod LaRoy joined Sicamous Fire Rescue in 2012 and has played an integral role in training and mentoring firefighters within the department. As an NFPA 1001 certified firefighter and ice rescue technician, he has supported specialty training and operational readiness, while serving as a steady leader on emergency calls and in the training environment.

“It is an honour to be promoted to deputy fire chief,” Jarrod says. “I would like to thank Fire Chief Allen for the opportunity and the trust he has placed in me. I look forward to continuing my leadership role within the department and serving the community.”

As deputy fire chief, Jarrod will continue to support training, leadership development and operational coordination within the department, while stepping up to lead the team in the absence of the fire chief.

Steve Norton brings nearly two decades of fire service experience to his new role as captain, with service spanning departments in Alberta and British Columbia. In his time with Sicamous Fire Rescue, he has demonstrated a strong focus on teamwork, safety, community and mentorship. Steve also holds additional training as an emergency medical responder, hazardous materials technician and safety instructor.

“I look forward to having the opportunity to mentor up-and-coming firefighters and officers by sharing the experience and knowledge that I have gained over the years,” says Steve. “The fire service is about paying it forward. My mentors passed on their training to me, so I can now do the same.”

In his role as captain, Steve will help lead day-to-day operations, support firefighter development and promote fire safety and public education in the community.

“Both Jarrod and Steve have demonstrated exceptional dedication, leadership and commitment to our community,” says Fire Chief Allen. “Their hard work and integrity make them outstanding choices for these roles, and we are fortunate to have them guiding our team.”
