Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2026 Recreation Survey. Your input and feedback will help shape the future of recreation programming in Sicamous!
Survey Overview
- The survey was open from January 30 to February 17, 2026 and promoted via social media, email and community outreach.
- 88 people participated in the survey. Residents across all ages participated.
What We Heard
- More fitness and wellness options. Residents want more yoga, Pilates, HITT and drop-in fitness classes.
- More adult programming. Strong interest in adult-focused classes like cooking, hobbies and social programs.
- Flexible, drop-in programming. Preference for casual, drop-in formats over multi-week commitments.
- Awareness is a barrier. Many respondents said they don't know what programs are available. For those looking to stay in the loop about recreation offerings:
- The Community Calendar lists recreation programs and events.
- The Sicamous Recreation & Events Facebook page actively shares program reminders and registration information.
- The seasonal Recreation & Events Guide is available on the Recreation & Events webpage.
- Interest in a community pool was a recurring theme. While there are no current plans in place for the District of Sicamous to build and operate a swimming pool, this interest from residents has been clearly noted.
Opportunities
- Expand adult and senior programming.
- Offer more diverse fitness options.
- Increase drop-in opportunities.
- Optimize use of indoor spaces during winter.
- Strengthen promotion and outreach to improve awareness of programming.
- Collaborate with community organizations to enhance annual events.
- Collaborate with community organizations to reach new audiences with information on programming.
Moving Forward
- Focus on flexible, drop-in programming.
- Expand adult learning, hobby and wellness offerings.
- Improve communication and visibility.
- Continue building inclusive, all-ages programming.
- The results of the survey will be discussed at 1 p.m. on March 25 at the committee of the whole meeting. Residents are invited to attend the meeting online via Zoom or in-person at Municipal Hall (446 Main Street).
